Trinidad's newest record label Blackspearmusic aims to make strides

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 | 9:35 AM

The days of record labels being large, multi-storied buildings with several receptionists to welcome musicians and general public alike as well as a wall covered in shiny vinyl albums, marble floors and a towering fountain set ideally in the corner are officially over. Yeah, like dead and buried...

"We're shattering that archaic image of the term 'record label'" said label head executive A.B.Mitchell, of Blackspearmusic label, based in the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. "With the massive strides in technology and social media, marketing, artiste management and publicity have become much, much easier." This is a good thing, as the label already has several talented musicians and artistes already
rostered. Covering a wide range of musical styles, from the typical Trini flavours of soca and calypso to the globally appealing sounds of R&B, reggae, hip-hop, dancehall, synth-pop and electronica.

The label, although small, is more than well equipped to provide the wide array of services needed by the modern musician in the 21st century. Music and vocal training, song-writing and scoring, media management, digital tagging and tracking and lifestyle coaching. With connections in many mainstream and non-secular media outlets locally and throughout the wider world, artistes can expect their creative talents to reach countless millions in a relatively short space of time.
The technical team provided by the label all bring many years of practical and world-class knowledge to the table, from certified guidance councillors, professional journalists, experienced publicists and dedicated sound engineers.

"Blackspearmusic is determined to fill a void in locally produced, high quality music geared towards a global audience. Caribbean music is mostly made with the Caribbean in mind and we here in Trinidad are still
rigidly brainwashed in thinking that the only music out from Trinidad must either be soca, calypso or chutney. We will be observing the songs that rank high on the charts to determine their global appeal and we will try to not only emulate their success, but to study their secrets as well." mentioned Mitchell, who also pointed out that the label welcomes all forms of musicians, regardless of their preferred genres.

If you would like to contact the label, please call (868) 704-6747 or 762-4224, or check out the label's website  for more information.
