Darkcide International 'Spawns' Into Europe

After emerging on the scene six years ago Darkcide International continues to grow in strength. The Kingston-based sound system last week expanded operations into Europe with the launch of its British arm. As part of the new undertaking the sound has inked a deal with top urban disc jock (DJ Spawn) making him the newest member of the outfit. However he’ll be based in Europe.

Hailing from Reading, England, DJ Spawn not only boasts expertise in Caribbean and North American music but has a vast knowledge of other genres including: Funky, House, U.K. Garage, Club, Classic, Grime and Drum n Bass making him an ideal to marketing to that demographic. The sound’s full compliment now consists of: DJ Spawn(U.K.), Sunjock Calico (Suncity 104.9FM, Portmore), Acid and teenage sensation DJ So Sick.


“It has always been a goal of mine to expand into other markets instead of confining ourselves to North America and the Caribbean. As part of the development process we’ll be promoting aggressively in Europe with the intent of solidifying ‘TEAMDARKCIDE’ across the globe” – Managing Director, Raymond ‘Shadow’ Small explained.



Last year as part of the expansion process the sound formed its record label of a similar name along with subsidiary Prism Marketing Consultants for artiste management, events and promotion some of its clients includes: Blak RynoNinja Kid, Producer Markus Myrie along with the very popular Guinness Hamma Fridaze event.


Meanwhile, within days of the new signing, Darkcide has already secured dates at Reading University, Berkshire and is confirmed for the 35thAnnual Reading Carnival celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The event unfolds on June 4th at Prospect Park, Liebenrood Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG30 2ND.



The Carnival is an annual event that has been running since 1977. The main Carnival Procession takes place on the second Bank Holiday Monday in the month of May. Reading Community Carnival showcases carnival culture, with the sounds of reggae, dancehall, soca, calypso as well as the Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra. Complimented by a Carnival King and Queen competition.
