Visa Woes: Beenie Man unable to perform with Nicki Minaj on BET’s 106 & Park today

Entertainer Beenie Man was scheduled to perform "Gunshot” with Trinidadian-American Nicki Minaj on BET’s 106 & Park in New York today, but will not be able to do so, because of visa issues.

Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, visa was cancelled in April 2010 and reissued during the summer. However, he has no work permit, which is needed for this evening’s performance.

The duo were scheduled to perform their new hit collaboration, Gunshot, the first single off Minaj’s new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded which will be unveiled on Today, April 3rd.
Beenie Man’s management stated that the artiste cannot meet his performing obligation on the BET show, as there is some lack of clarity in relation to whether Beenie Man’s performance on a major American television network such as BET would qualify for a royalty distribution, in turn, possibly violating terms of his visitor’s visa.

In a statement Beenie Man’s manager, ‘Blue’ Smith said.

We have been advised that his appearance on BET would be considered as a paid performance because the station has to pay over royalties for live performances, so it would be a clear violation of the terms of his visitor's visa so we decided to not take the risk and comply with the US Embassy,"

Beenie Man is schedule to perform on Friday, in Portland at the Cran Wata Boston Jerk Festival and Easter Monday at the International Kite Festival in St Ann. He is also confirmed to perform in St Catherine at the Portmore Seafood Festival the same Monday..
