Kingston, Jamaica – June 21, 2011 - Usain Bolt may be the fastest man alive but he recently agreed to slow his pace, long enough, to shoot a new and vibrant ad campaign for Gatorade. The campaign will see a new sleek bottling and packaging for the world’s most popular sports drink. The commercial was filmed right here in Jamaica at the Usain Bolt track at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

The campaign will feature Bolt drinking from the new Gatorade bottle and according to the world record holder; he is already in love with the new design.

The shooting of the commercial did not impact too much on the champion sprinter’s training schedule. He explained that it was very important that he shot the commercial there.

“Any opportunity to showcase Jamaica in a positive way is important to Brand Usain and Brand Jamaica,” Bolt said.

The triple Olympic and World Champion was very animated while speaking about the shoot and the upcoming campaign which he believes further cements his relationship with Gatorade.

“Jamaica is an important location to any brand, and it is my home, so I am always excited about Jamaica,” Bolt said. “I do realise that Gatorade was a company who was committed to maintaining relationships with the best sport has to offer, and I thought I represented an aspect of that. Gatorade is an A-class organisation and I am pleased. I look forward to strengthening that relationship.”

Word is that background video from the video shoot will be made into a viral video that will be released to the social media networks to prepare the public for the upcoming campaign that should be ready for launch about June or July this year.

According to Carlo Redwood, Head of Marketing at Pepsi, distributors of Gatorade, the company wanted to introduce a stylish new Gatorade bottle endorsed by the fastest man on the planet and at a very competitive price for consumers.

“This new package from Gatorade not only has a cool and contemporary look as you hold it in your hand but is also the fuel behind the Bolt. This fantastic new bottle from Gatorade is now more affordable and retails at a suggested retail price of only $100 inclusive of GCT,” Redwood said.

“We are happy to have Usain Bolt as the face of our campaign,” he added.

Bolt has been using Gatorade since 2008 and continues to do because he said it has become an essential part of his daily training regimen. “Gatorade represents rehydration which is key to training, especially in Jamaica's warm climate,” he said.

In other words, in more ways than one Gatorade has become a key partner to the world’s fastest man. Being the fastest man is not always what it seems to be but Bolt says he is getting used to the idea. “It has its ups and downs, lots of attention, but I am up to the task,” he said. “Gatorade has been key to helping me realise some of my dreams.”
