IRIE FM creator Karl Young, died yesterday from a lung-related medical condition,following surgery in Chicago, USA.
Media Association Jamaica head, Gary Allen said Young's passing was a sad occasion.
In the 1980’s, when all-inclusive hotels began to dominate Jamaica’s tourism scene, Young ventured into music production with Grove Music, which recorded Grammy winning albums “The Little Mermaid” and “Calling Rastafari” by Burning Spear.
Montego Bay also benefited from his hard work and vision with the 'One Night Boonoonoonoos Beach Party' on Friday nights.
On August 1, 1989 Young launched the all-reggae station IRIE FM which revolutionized the Jamaican music landscape and took pushed reggae to the higher heights on the world stage
