Why isn't Jamaica on this list.I didnt realize we werew that poor. We cannot make the top 10 riches nation in the caribbean I can't believe the Bahamas is number one.
Jamaica is not in the top 10 because our Government made of mess of the economy. None of our resources are owned by the Government. The highways are owned by foreigners. We are indebt to the world back and IMF.

Jamaica was once the richest country in the Caribbean, but because of bad governance a stupid, corrupt and heartless pnp government Jamaica fell drastically to the bottom, second to Haiti, when will the Jamaican people wake up, when its too late, i hope not, trinidad owns all of our companies, which the PNP sold out, they borrowed huge amounts of money they could not pay back and now the poor class Jamaicans has to bear this wicked act, may god punish them to the max, Please Jamaica form a new government with only young people who can bring Jamaica to the powerful country it once was.

what people dont realize is that alot of these countries were simply blessed with these natural resources, trinidad is up there because of its large amounts of export of oil, it isnt like other countries had the chance to earn a natural resource like that but didnt , they have because of their geographic location, the bahamas are a chain of about 100k islands and they are the easiest country to reach from North America and Europe, and aruba is still considered by many to be a dependency of denmark, I am not knocking any of these countries, but it is unnecessary for anyone to start dissing anyone elses countries, saying stuff like stupid Jamaicans is uncalled for, I bet everyone who is posting on this site has had no effect on their respective country's economoy, food for thought guys

People who have written comments seem to be so jealous of the different islands that are ahead of their particular island. O.K., everyone would like to be No. 1, but is this realistic? In actual fact these ratings are based only on GDP and does not reflect the quality of life and availabilty of resources to its population. With the exception of Haiti the larger the Island's population the more resources are available. Example hospitals will provide a wider range of services, more universities, greater shopping experience, greater access to technology also a wider gap between rich and the poor allows ordinary citizens to have maids and gardeners which would not be possible in high GDP countries.

Cayman Islands is the richest island in the Caribbean. And I'm Canadian of Trini decent. They have almost 2 trillion dollars in foreign cash sitting in their offshore and international banks.

could you guys imagine if all of us would come together instead of competing against each other all the time. there are individuals out there that can buy some of our islands; as much as you think we have, we don't have that much. we need to unify. what we have is potential to be one of the richest regions in the world. this is the only way we would be able to command the respect of the bigger nations. many of these bigger countries don't even see us as "real" countries, yet we fighting against each other. wake up people, i'm from Trinidad, and i love my country, but if i don't love and respect my Caribbean people, how can i expect outsiders to do it. i live in new york (in school), and americans' do not care which island i am from; all i am to them is an immigrant from the islands. people let's put some thought into this- together we can force to reckon with, do not take your brother/sister for granted, we all have a part to play. One Caribbean, One People (and as we Trini does say), One Time!

I have been to Grenada,nothing in Grenada not even doors are made in Grenada they get their doors imported from Trinidad, Not even a good hospital, the only thing in Grenada is the university that is owned by America. How could Jamaica not be on the list. This has got to be wrong Jamaica will and always be the best island.
People don't be fooled, Jamaica has produced the most famous stars, Bob Marley, Bolt, Powell, Merlin Ottey,
Michael Macullum Razor Rudduck,Sean Paul, Bennie Man,Movado,Kartel,Bouny Killer, Saggy, Beris Hammond, John Holt, Jimmy Cliff, and many more stars who are born in Jamaica. Name at least five famous stars from any other island.

The Bahamas has been proven to be the richest, and the best, country in the caribbean. Highest GDP, clearest waters in the world. We don't even pay attention to whats going on in Jamaica, or T&T, thats why were the richest.

I know I'm not suppose to bicker but sweet TnT is number 1, consider:
1. We invented steelpan that is played in all other islands
2. Birthplace of calypso and soca
3. Our carnival has been copied all over the caribbean, where is the Bajans and their "crop over"?
4. WE OWN AIR JAMAICA (had to throw that in there)
5. We manufacture 80% of food, drink, and other goods used in other islands
6. We give tones of aid to ther islands when disaster hits (how many Grenadian it still have living in TnT and don't want to leave?)
7. Our economy does not depend on tourism and we don't have any all inclusive resorts destroying our natural beauty
8. Port of Spain, just check out our new National Performong Arts center

Im going to just come right out and say it if it wasnt for Jamaica all the other caribbean islands would not even relevant. Stop hating on Jamaica give thanks that a set of people were able to free themselves and Haiti from slavery and so we could maintain some of out African heritage. I think is crazy how other islands talk about Jamaicans and act as if they put us on the map. I dont care which country is richer we still have a long way to go in order to get ourselves to where we need to be. I have heard how people especially from Trinidad speak about Jamaicans and its very infuriating we dont speak about our brothers and sisters in that manner. Jamaicans are very loving sharing and proud people. Reggaeton came about because we did not feel our music was too good share. People please lets keep it really who really runs your country ask yourself that before you start acting like your better than someone.
Why can't we just be happy for the countries that make the list.
The Bahamas is No.1 because of a stable government, and sound economic policies. Our leaders, past and present, have put in place solid economic principles that allows for growth and prosperity. As someone else said, we don't worry about what the other islands are doing, or what they have, we make the best out of what God has blessed us with. We might not have natural resources like oil or what have you. But God has blessed us with an ideal location a mere 50 miles off the coast of the most powerful and influential nation in the world, the USA, the country where the bulk of our 5 million+ tourists a year, come from. Add to that near perfect weather, amazing beaches, crystal clear waters, and you have the ideal tourist destination.
And not only is The Bahamas No.1 in the Caribbean region, but among sovereign, independent countries, we rank 3rd in the Western Hemisphere, behind only the USA and Canada, and 1st in the World among countries with a majority Black population. Not too shabby.
Are you Bahamians serious? You have more fast food restaurants than you have medical facilities. And your medical facilities are so bad that most of you have to come to the US for medical treatment. Your hospitals are divided between those who have and does who don't. You're treated like 3rd rate citizens on your own soil when there aren't even competing races/ethnicities. And if that's not enough, you have to scrap your nose on the tails of US and Canadian citizens-predominantly, for you to have the standing you do have.
You don't produce a damn thing in your country, you just leech off tourists but wait until tourism die down after becoming aware of how your government extort money from the US.

i dont understand why is it that people are going back and forth about this. haiti was once the richest country and now its not even on the list. what i am trying to say is everything is in gods hands and once a country starts to pull away from that thats when things start to go down the drain. ive never been to TnT but i would love to someday. I live in the bahamas and honsetly when i found out we were number 1 i was shocked. you know what they teach us in schools? they teach us about the Caribbean as a whole and how we are all ONE, not about how were on top or that WERE BETTER. Trinidad and tobago are now the richest. Trinidad has had a very shitty government (PNM) in the past in which they even wanted to destroy all homes around UWI to build a stupid train track...speak of brilliance.
inabatConsidering Trinidad have been blessed with oil, natural gas and asphalt, it should be on the world ranking like Singapore, which is by far a much smaller island than T&T and no natural resources. However, successive T'dadan politicians have followed the example of their most corrupt counterparts (in Africa, USA, India etc) to enrich themselves, instead of developing their people’s quality of life and the infra-structure. As a consequence, true moral leadership has been absent for far too long and the country is gripped by a quagmire or corrupt people spread across all places in power. In addition, people are employed from overseas, who have and are entering T’dad & Tobago, for the sole purpose of defrauding and or stealing from the country.
Our infrastructure is appalling. Does older citizen or people with a physical or visual disability have a place in Trinidad? Walking in Trinidad is a death trap and a hazard for frail or infirm people. Getting up on the pavement requires a small step ladder and when a person overcomes that hurdle, they have the uneven areas and holes of varying sizes(some large enough for a person to fall into).
The children born to poor families in T&T have no equal educational opportunities to enable them to achieve good examination results and to aspire high. Education and health care is a universal human right. T&T free schools are not providing a good std of education to children who do not have help at home. School standards and performance needs to be raised and bad teachers and heads penalized for failing children and failing schools. Why don’t we have a welfare & training programme for poor parents with low parenting skills.
I cited Singapore as a model of very high std of governance, moral & ethical codes in all areas of public and private life, a very high std of education, one of the best health care system, one of the highest stand of living in the world, first class infrastructure and the lowest crime figure. This little island is smaller than Trinidad and the police cannot be corrupted.
Cuba is in our region and has a lot of positives to teach the other Caribbean nations, yet Trinidad cozies up to other islands in the region that is equally failing its people and where drugs and corruption is rife. The human rights issue in Cuba is an American (double standard) propaganda to prevent the region from growing up and developing. Cuba has been steadfast and despite the USA (over 40 years) attempt to crush Cuba's life blood. This proud nation has inspired the world. It exports doctors all over the world and can boast one of the best health care system(free for all it's citizen)and education, which is also free.
There are human rights issues all over the world that the USA turns a blind eye too, including the number of victims of police crimes, particularly in shoot outs under the guise of drugs in Jamaica and Trinidad .

As said by a few people, all this tearing down of other islands is pointless and disgraceful. Caricom has as much problem as it is as it relates to cross government relations, don’t be drawn into this petty debate as to who is better than the other. For the greater part we are all suffers, for the greater part the minority in each state still controls the means of sustenance that we the majority needs; for the greater part our governments are crap, for the greater part we are still a classist set of people, bringing down our own citizens solely because of their social, economical and ancestral backgrounds; for the greater part we are all still dependent on Europe and North America for our survival (Yes Trinidad, you too are dependent). But at the same time still we all have our contrasting and different cultural identities with which joins us together, we have gifts, we’ve made achievements that cause the rest of the world to look at us with awe. Jamaica has reggae, dread locks, track and field ect; Trinidad and Tobago has steel pan, carnival ect; St Lucia has two Nobel laureates ect and list continues with other states. Go and read up on your fellow caricom members, see what the individual states are really about, see what the people are really about, find out the true reasons for the many problems that EVERY SINGLE MEMBER HAS and at the same time highlight the many positives of these countries. Prove that you are well thinking people, who are able to look beyond the many fallacies that are spoken of each other and stop this stupid bickering stop fighting against each other like crabs in a barrel; it helps no one not even yourself! I listened to every comments , and i am sick with some of these comments , there are things we need to do to improve our region. every island has there issues , take jamaica for example there problem are there really don,t care about the rest of the caribbean all they do is big up themselves and USA ,England Canada never would promote no caribbean country , i have heard it in you music never once heard none of you guys mention one caribbean country , so why should other caribbean countries have remorse for your adversities, unless u start producing what you where , what you eat , and stop depending on foreign and get back to basic you heading in the wrong direction, music ,dance hall ,tapping yourselves y,ll shoulders won,t cut it

This most be a joke, Cayman Islands is one of the richest ones and is not even in the list... there more than 500 banks and most of them are private. They need to update the list.
