On November 28, 2009, Kool Bajan Promotions will celebrate 30 years as a cultural organization in the USA with the staging of the original Miss Barbados-USA Independence Queen Show And Ball.

For the past 28 years Kool Bajan Promotions has set the framework for the promotion of Barbadian culture in the New York metropolitan area... Our 30th anniversary celebration this year represents our commitment to our stated goals, as well as a response to the Bajan community in NY to continue with the original show, where there has been a void for the past two years.

The event will be held at Nazareth Hall in Brooklyn featuring Barbados’ nine times CropOver King, Red Plastic Bag; King of The Road and the People’s Monarch, Edwin Yearwood; Barbados’ top comedian and consummate entertainer, Mac Fingal and Mikey of “I In Dat” and “Riddim Sekshun” (2009) Andy Hewitt and the Technic Band which is comprised of Bajans and other Caribbean nationals, will back the artistes as well as supply music for dancing. Batch Productions, another Bajan duo of Alwyn and Sean, will keep patrons moving with their ever popular DJ sets. Kool Bajan Promotions was founded in 1979 by Ainsley Allder to promote the culture and talent of Barbados.

To this end the Miss Barbados-USA Independence Queen Show And Ball was established as one event which showcases the talent, intelligence and beauty of young Barbadians, whilst providing a venue for Barbadians in the New York metropolitan area to celebrate the island’s anniversary of independence which falls on November 30.

Over the years this event has gained popularity in the Caribbean and wider communities of New York, New Jersey and other states. We provide a platform for young Barbadian females to showcase their beauty and talent as well as provide entertainment by Barbados’ best entertainers direct from Barbados. In addition to the pageant and Show, Kool Bajan Promotions honors and awards several members of the entertainment industry as well as the business community for their commitment to their various industries /causes.

This year will be no different. Contestants for Miss Barbados-USA are Bajan by birth or parentage, between the ages of 17 and 26 years; never married; never borne a child; a permanent resident or citizen of the USA. Former contestants and winners have expressed their satisfaction in participating in this pageant, which many have stated created several positive opportunities for them. One of the prizes the winner will receive is an expense paid trip to Barbados for 2010 CropOver with appearances at several events.

Former winners have had the pleasure of meeting international celebrities, such as Hugh Masekela and Roberta Flack as well as all of Barbados’ Prime Ministers and top celebrities. The winner will also have opportunities to pursue her interests during her reign. There will be several prizes for the runners-up as well as other contestants.
