Jamaican singer/songwriter Carlene Davis released her debut gospel CD this week called True Worship on VP Records. Best known for producing great reggae music, Davis’ CD was recorded live at Kingston’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios.
The CD offers 13 songs of praise ranging from traditional hymns to original songs penned by the Davis and her producer husband Tommy Cowan. And some songs feature background vocals by the iconic Jamaican gospel group The Grace Thrillers.
Born in Colonel’s Ridge Clarendon, Jamaica, Davis rose to prominence with Jamaica’s musical secular realm with her massive 1982 country-tinged reggae version of Paul Kelly’s "Stealing Love on the Side."
Davis will release a CD featuring her greatest hits over the last decade in November. It’s titled the Best of Glory – Carlene Davis.
