Bob Marley Musical "Marley" to Premiere at Center Stage Theatre in Baltimore and New York in May 2015

musical chronicling the attempted assassination of the legendary  Bob Marley will debut in Maryland next May. The musical entitled "Marley," was written and directed by British-born playwright/actor/director Kwei-Armah.

The premiere will be collaboration between Center Stage theatre in Baltimore and New York's Public Theater, where the musical will run from May 6 to June 15 2015.

Marley focuses particularly on the period of 1975 -1978, when there was an attempted assassination at the singer’s Hope Road residence in Jamaica and he later went into a self-imposed exile in London with his family due to fears over his safety.

Marley will also include music released during that period from his albums, Exodus, Kaya and Rastaman Vibrations

In a statement on Tuesday, Marley's daughter, Cedella Marley said that the family is thrilled to be working with Kwei-Armah on the musical.

“We are thrilled to be working both with Kwame and with Center Stage to bring part of our father’s story to life in a way that has never been done before. “When it comes to our father’s work and legacy, we have always been mindful in selecting the artists with whom we choose to collaborate. We couldn’t be more excited about the team that is assembled for this project.”

Workshops on "Marley" will be held in Baltimore and New York in the months ahead as the musical takes shape. Casting will begin soon.

Another musical “Nesta’s Rock” based on Bob Marley’s childhood will debut in Jamaica this coming January.

Caribbean Tales Film Festival 2014 Shines Spotlight on Regional Talent

Toronto, ON (Sonique Solutions) – The successful and highly respected Caribbean Tales International Film Festival (CTFF) celebrates its 9th annual edition in 2014.

This unique event which takes place in the metropolitan city of Toronto from September 3rd to 13th will highlight the many facets of Caribbean culture via film as well as provide a platform for the regional film industry’s future development.

Under the theme, “Our Lens, Our Perspective” the CTFF aims to build capacity for a film industry in the region and continues to increase markets and audiences for Caribbean stories and films.

This year the festival will offer such films as “The Glamour Boyz Again! Sparrow and Superior on the Hilton rooftop”, “Poetry is an Island – Derek Walcott”, “Kingston Paradise” and “Forever Ever: The Killing of A Revolution”. In addition to featuring films and filmmakers from the Caribbean Diaspora (including several world premieres), this 10-day extravaganza also boasts an Incubator program for burgeoning filmmakers, meet and greet sessions with film producers and actors, and strategic networking events.

The 2014 edition will be executed alongside the famed Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which gives the CTFF’s entries the opportunity to be showcased to large international audiences of film-goers and industry personnel which are not only open but eager to viewing independent and foreign productions.

The CTFF is supported by a solid team of filmmakers and other individuals who have been connected to the international film industry. The initiative is spearheaded by Executive Director Frances-Anne Solomon who created the festival with the goals of branding Caribbean Cinema and creating innovative avenues to showcase it to the World.

According to Festival Director Malinda Francis, “We at the festival strive to screen and explore that is authentically a Caribbean voice and Caribbean point of view. We endeavor to continually gather and showcase stories from all over the region and its Diaspora and give patrons an experience that is genuinely Caribbean.

The CTFF is already causing high anticipation in Toronto and much like previous years, is expected to attract audiences (Caribbean and Non-Caribbean alike) from various parts of the North-American Diaspora. En route to the official Sept. 3rd commencement the organizers are already enticing festival fans with free community screenings around the Toronto area.

Book Series "Star Boy" Debuts As Short Animated Film

amaica born author Tilsa Wright has translated her popular "Star Boy" book series into a short animated film with the help of St. Catherine, Jamaica based young animator Stephen Williamson.

Stephen, who won 4th place at Jamaica's very first animation conference back in June 2013, saw Tilsa's vision and rendered an award worthy 10 minutes short film, which stars "Star Boy" main character Tania Watson-Lane, voiced by internationally known actress and blogger Carla Moore. The amazing score features Grass roots singers Jane Macgizmo with "Black Skin" and "Trouble Maker" by N. Payne.

"Star Boy" author Tilsa Wright stated "Star Boy animation has been a year of highs and low. At the end it truly melts my heart to see the unison of young Jamaican talent. Key person I would love to benefit from this project is Stephen Williamson, to help build and highlight his portfolio and small business. Second my girl with a heart of pure gold, Jane Macgizmo, her Erykah Badu sound is exceptionally different coming from the land of Reggae and Dancehall, she has even caught the attention of billboard contributing writer Patricia Meschino.  "Black Skin" is just plain outright perfect. About The Author Tilsa Wright -

Jamaican born now living in Brooklyn, New York, Tulsa Cecile Wright has truly come into her own. Stepping away from challenges and uncertainties, Wright has positioned herself among whom she loves and boldly represents the ‘Grass Roots’. A phrase she uses affectionately as she relates to the sea of talented individuals waiting and working hard for that ‘Big Break’.

With an incomplete College background, Wright has established herself as a self-published author and the publisher of Sym-Magazine an online platform. Miriam Simone Releases 6th Music Video Entitled ‘Rivers’

aving become a household name in the Dutch Caribbean island of Surinam and gained marginal recognition throughout the international Reggae music scene, Miriam Simone is relentless in her pursuit to share her message with the masses. Her latest single and video release entitled ‘Rivers’ is set to take her to new heights. The songstress whose hallmark is synonymous with positivity, upliftment and truth, also shares these sentiments in her latest single. According to a recent article published in the Jamaican Observer newspaper, Simone stated that she hopes ‘Rivers’ will inspire audiences to “show more love and respect for each other while valuing the beauty of Mother Earth”.

Rivers’ is the first single release from her debut English speaking album - Mount Zion, scheduled for release later this year. Mount Zion is produced by D ‘Decko’ Douglas and M ‘Morro’ Nijhove of Dredda Records, also known for productions such as the latest Liberation 20 EP from Ziggy Ricado. Simone and her production team were very cautious in selecting this as her successive release, hoping to build on the success of her previous project, ‘Dem A Chat’, which received international radio airplay and features on prime-time television throughout various Caribbean islands. It is also anticipated that with extra push in the mainstream media, across European, this project will break her into new markets and expose her to a wider fan base. So far ‘Rivers’ has been doing just that according to positive feedback from DJs and fans alike.
