BEAU Designs Pairs with Changing Faces in Spectacular Summer Shoot

F
ashion company BEAU Designs has partnered with successful emerging MUA (Make-Up Ariste) Nikisha Benjamin-Richardson in a sizzling summer fashion shoot last weekend.

Held at the majestic Trinidad and Tobago Hyatt Regency, the shoot was an extremely successful marriage of two intrinsic and highly artistic aspects of the fashion industry, where meticulous and intricate flawlessly applied make-up complimented the bold and daring designs of BEAU. From the stylish ‘Kissed by a Rose’, a sensuous cascade of wine stained lace and flowing, crimson satin to the classically elegant ‘Secret Purple’ with smokey brushed eyes as well as seductively parted lips glossed in full ruby, the pieces were shot around the opulent settings of the hotel by renowned fashion photographer Luis Young, who captured the many moods and beauty of both the faces and figures of the models.

Sai-ann, who was contacted by Ms. Benjamin-Richardson to provide the wardrobe of the shoot, decided to feature both designs as they best represent the hidden beauty most women possess. Ms. Benjamin-Richardson was also greatly impressed by the use of colour in the designs, stating that they suited her own approach towards make-up. The self taught MUA strongly believes that the face should be expressed equally as the body, as this is what a woman offers to the world: an image of confidence, exquisite beauty and playful radiance. Both women were equally impressed by the designs and skills of the other and have promised to work closely and frequently with each other on future endeavors.

BEAU Designs is currently preparing to release its sophomore collection geared towards the professional working woman. Sphinx comprises of twelve sophisticated, elegantly casual pieces which can be worn as stand alone items or subsequently mixed and matched for added creativity. Aptly named for the creature of Greek and Egyptian mythology and its penchant for testing travelers with riddles, the creature’s most famous answer has been creatively flipped into the line. Scheduled for a tentative release later in the year, Sphinx is Sai-ann’s second presentation at Caribe Fashions ‘Trini Styles’, which gives local designers a forum to showcase their skill in fashion design, dressmaking and accessorizing. She impressed both judges and critiques alike with her first fashion offering, ‘BEAU’, which she has subsequently expanded and now bears the name of her company.

Sai-ann Sultan to Launch "Sphinx" at Caribe Fashion In T&T

Shows the Journey of the Professional Woman by Seeking the Riddle of the Sphinx

Following the success at last year’s Caribe Fashion, local fashion designer Sai-ann Sultan has turned to her knowledge of classical mythology as the source of inspiration for this year’s showcase at City Hall in Port of Spain. Come July 6th, 2014, she will leave the local fashion circuit ‘riddled’ when she launches ‘SPHINX’.

Inspired by the creature of both Greek and Egyptian folklore, her latest line will explore the journey of the professional working woman with twelve intrinsically designed pieces, tailored to blend beauty with professionalism at the workplace. The pieces are designed to represent the riddle posed by the Sphinx, who according to legend was ‘what has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs in the evening?’ Because the answer was ‘Man’, Sai-ann has decided to flip the concept to ‘Woman’, and her journey throughout her professional career.

“As a working professional myself, I know the time, effort and dedication required to maintain a professional look while considering other factors such as functionality, style and above all, affordability. The twelve pieces can be worn as individual outfits or can be mixed and matched for a completely different look.” When asked about the general theme of the new line, she explained simply ‘All working women go through three major stages while pursuing a career and the line follows that journey. As a young professional entering the workplace, youthfulness is weighed with uncertainty of unfamiliarity of entering a new working environment. That represents the first stage of the line, aptly named ‘Youthful Uncertainty’.

‘As time passes, she is now comfortably settled into the routine of the job and has now set her sight on progressing through the many minefields of the office. Older and wiser, she can maintain a hardened edge when dealing with deadlines, but still knows how to let her hair down. The four pieces in this section, ‘Professional Conquest’ represents the second part of the Sphinx’s riddle, middle age and I made sure to place careful emphasis in ensuring that the professional look would still be visually appealing without being distracting.’

‘Finally, as the working woman has looked back at her climb to the top, she must now nurture and shape the talent below her, just as she was once shaped by her superiors. Her dress code imparts power and authority, confidence and wisdom. Therefore, the last section, ‘Established Maturity’ would reflect the balance and struggle for power and respect in the boardroom.’

This will be Sai-ann’s second time featuring her designs on a Caribbean runway, following last’s year’s debut of BEAU Designs by Sai-ann, which received critical acclaims. Bolstered by that overwhelming success, the Southern born beauty is already gearing up to repeat her run-away runway experience. And the competition has better come prepared, as she now armed to the teeth.
